Wednesday

The slow early pace didn't suit Arlequin yesterday and though he finished well he could manage only fourth.  He still looks capable of winning off this mark in a similar race with more pace on, will be one to look out for in the coming weeks.

Beverley stage a nice 5f sprint tomorrow (15:10) on the famous straight course with more non-runners than anywhere else, at least if reports are to be believed.  I remember being up at Haydock on Sprint Cup day when seeing Confessional romp home in a good sprint handicap from some useful opponents off a mark of 88, that was a better race than this and though passed over by stable jockey David Allan he looks more than capable of going well at a big price, the Haydock was race 5f on good to firm and I recorded a speed figure of 84 for him that day, a decent performance when compared with how others in this race have done in their most recent starts.  He had two more starts following that, one being in the Portland where he showed up well for a long way before fading in the final half furlong with the other coming when probably over the top again at Doncaster in October.  He ran well on his seasonal debut last season and I expect a bold show from him tomorrow in spite of a somewhat poor draw.

Advice: Confessional 0.5pts each-way @ 16/1 (William Hill, Bet365)

Stakes: 2pts
Returns: 0pts
